The Foundation of Quartieri SpagnoliFOQUS - is situated in the Montecalvario area of Naples’ Spanish Quarter (aka the Quartieri Spagnoli). It was established within a vast and stunning complex of the 16th century, founded by the Neapolitan noblewoman Maria Ilaria D’Apuzzo.

Its picturesque Courtyard is shielded for those rainy days and winter chills... and is exactly where our Encuentro Milonguero is taking place!

QUARTIERI SPAGNOLI

The Spanish Quarters

The district constitutes a haven of historical-artistic importance of the city of Naples. A rich tapestry of popular culture and Neapolitan lifestyle;  small craft shops, groundfloor homes, narrow alleys and the typical scenes of laundry hanging out to dry between the buildings.

' Portacarrese in Montecalvario is an open-air museum where Totò's legacy reign supreme.

As we started out on our long walk, I was asked if I knew a non-touristic side of Naples, a side that wouldn’t make it on a postcard, I assumed it was a feasible task but soon understood that even the most unknown areas of Naples are postcard worthy. So, when tourists wander off the typical paths and into Naples’ narrow streets of high walls and everyday life, it is but a matter of time before the area becomes a sought-after destination as well.  And the Spanish Quarters’ recent revival is a perfect example. '
